Apprentice incentive payment for employing disabled people
To help businesses recruit an apprentice who is disabled the Welsh Government are offering incentives until 31 March 2024.
Details of the incentive are as follows:
- Employers who recruit a disabled apprentice on 1st April 2022 or later, will be eligible to receive an employer incentive of £2,000 per learner
- Payments are restricted to 10 disabled learners per business
- Incentives apply to apprenticeships delivered at levels 2 to 5 only and do not apply to degree apprenticeships.
You cannot apply if:
- You are recruiting on a zero hours contract
- You are using a shared apprenticeship model
- A learner is identified as having a disability after they have been recruited.

About Employer Skills North Wales
The Employer Skills North Wales project is an exciting, £1.8m opportunity for you and your business. If you’re based in Wrexham, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Anglesey or Conwy, this project will help you access the support for you to develop staff skills and create a highly qualified workforce, making you better equipped to deliver commercial success in the future.
Employer Skills North Wales seeks to support employers with subsidised training. This will be offered to all sectors but specifically targeting regional growth areas including Advanced Manufacturing, Low Carbon, Digital, Agriculture, Food & Tourism, Health & Social Care and Management and other professionals.
Is My Business Eligible For Employer Skills North Wales Funding?
- Sole traders, micro, small, medium & large businesses
- Registered in North Wales
- VAT Registration
- Confirmation from HMRC (self-employed).
What Support Will I Get?
You can access up to 100% subsidised training for your workforce (eligibility criteria applies).
The Employer Skills team will identify the skills gaps and training opportunities within your team. We’ll make sure the courses are the best fit for your business, selected to bring the very best out of your team.
Is My Employee Eligible For Employer Skills North Wales Funding?
- Minimum 16 years of age
- Paid employee of an eligible company
- Not receiving any other government funding for the same training
- Right to live and work in the UK
- Other eligibility criteria may apply.
Food & Drink Skills Wales are offering an opportunity to train and develop a skilled and capable workforce within the food and drink industry in Wales with up to 80% of training costs being funded by the project.
To be eligible for this funding, businesses must meet the following criteria:
- Be within the food production and manufacturing industry
- Be based in Wales
- Be able to demonstrate a clear return on investment
If all of the criteria is met, business will be eligible to receive 80% funding (for businesses employing 1-49 staff) or 50% funding (for businesses employing 50+ staff) towards the cost of specific training courses within the following sectors;
- Leadership & Management
- Marketing & Sales
- Production & Manufacturing
- Compliance and Statutory for Growth

Once it has been received and reviewed they will be in touch to complete the Skills Diagnostic to identify skills gaps and create a training action plan.
