Laurence Turnbull

Studied – Level 3 Diploma Fabrication & Welding

Currently – Fabricator at Boccard

“Previously I had spent 15 years in the retail sector and after picking up welding as a hobby, I wanted to obtain the correct professional qualifications in order to pursue a new career path as this was critical in achieving these goals.”

“Following on from completing a number of night courses in welding at Deeside and with the mentorship I received on these I was made aware that the Level 3 NVQ and Diploma in Fabrication and Welding was the industry standard that I needed to aim for.”

“Without achieving a level 3 qualification in Fabrication and Welding it would not have been possible for me to pursue the role I have found myself in today or achieve my level 4 qualification.”

“Following this I have continued my development with a Level 4 NVQ and Diploma in Engineering Manufacturing. In addition to these I have completed several night courses to develop my welding competence further.”

“I would like to thank the Engineering team at Deeside and specifically the Fabrication and Welding Lectures Tony and Alun, as without the continued mentorship and guidance that I have received throughout my time there I would not have achieved the successes that I have today.”

“I am a student that was able to retrain in my early 30’s thanks to the availability of the night classes at Deeside and later progressed to a day release apprenticeship programme. This allowed me to retrain around work commitments and develop at a rate that suited my personal commitments.”
