About Apprenticeships
Why Choose An Apprenticeship?
Kickstart your career with an apprenticeship and earn as you learn.
Across North Wales and beyond, companies are recruiting for apprenticeships and training people in the skills they need to succeed in their career.
As an apprentice you will earn whilst you learn, gaining skills, knowledge, experience and recognised qualifications along the way. Whether you’re aged between 16 and 19 or 20 and over, a range of apprenticeship options may be available to you.
The Automotive Industry is an ever growing industry always on the lookout for new talent to join the sector.
We offer a wide range of apprenticeship qualifications to suit both light vehicle and heavy vehicle maintenance and diagnostics alongside shorter courses to keep industry knowledge up to date such as Advanced Driver Assist Systems(ADAS) and Hybrid/Electric Vehicle courses up to L4.
Apprentices will spend time at our recently refurbished state of the art facilities at our Deeside and Bersham Road campus for day release or assessment as well as being assessed onsite by our industry served assessing teams.
Motor vehicle apprentices should have a keen interest in cars and other vehicles and be able to work quickly and efficiently.

Stephen Kelly
Studied – Level 2 & 3 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
“During my Apprenticeship I learnt all aspects of how to fix cars, I was taught about new and evolving technologies regarding new vehicles, looked further into diagnosis and why and how faults occur on vehicles.
“On the Level 3 we looked in further detail about the different components of vehicles, for example we looked into the different transmissions available and driveline components. We also studied engines in depth and their basic components as well as the sensors and modules attached to it, vehicle communications systems and electrical components. These give you a better understanding of vehicles on the road so you can make a correct diagnosis and provide a better customer experience.
“The course helped me in my career tremendously as I’ve always been reluctant to have a look into electrics side as they were always so complex to work with, but now I’ve got the confidence to diagnose an issue whether it be electrical or mechanical and be 100% confident in myself that through my fault finding that I have come to the correct diagnosis.
“This is possibly one of the best things I’ve done in assisting my career, and I would thoroughly recommend anyone on the fence about doing the qualification to go ahead and do so, it’s proved invaluable to me!”
Frankie McCamley
Studied – A Level English, Drama, Maths and French
Currently – Presenter and News Correspondent for the BBC
“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in the future, so I chose a range of different subjects to study at A Level. I’m now employed by the BBC as a Presenter and News Correspondent and studying at Yale Sixth gave me the confidence and skills to go onto university. I made some amazing friends, had some great teachers who I’ll never forget and had a great time in Wrexham!
“I look back on my time at Yale with pride and fondness and will never forget it!”

“During my apprenticeship I was getting the training as well as getting paid. It opens your eyes up to the working environment and gets you ready for your future.
I think it’s brilliant to have the opportunity to do an apprenticeship as a mature person.”

How it Works
In Wales, Apprentices need to be 16+ and work a minimum of 16 hours per week to complete an Apprenticeship. The employer must be willing to support you in the Apprenticeship as you will be assessed in the workplace and may need to regularly attend college (this depends on the qualification) to learn new skills and complete any exams.
You will be assigned an industry experienced practitioner who will come into your workplace and set tasks for you to collect evidence which goes towards your qualification. They will also check on your wellbeing and ensure there are no issues or sign post you to additional support at Cambria if needed.
