Michael Savage
Studied – Level 3 Agriculture
Currently – Trainee livestock buyer for ABP UK
“My time at Llysfasi allowed me to further my understanding of the industry in areas that I wouldn’t have gained remaining on the family farm.
“Llysfasi gave me the chance to take the theory understanding taught to us, on to a productive working farm that was only a step away from the teaching block, something I believe would not be possible in other colleges.
“The practical understanding I gained at Llysfasi was fundamental to my learning at university as I could relate the theory work back to the college farm, as practical experience at university can be limited.
“The understanding I gained at Llysfasi allowed me to move onto Harper Adams University to further my studies in agriculture and I have been extremely fortunate to gain a position at ABP Shrewsbury as a trainee livestock buyer.
“I am thoroughly enjoying my new position and it would not have been possible without the education and experiences gained through college and the people who supported me along the way.”
Rebecca Frisby
Studied – Level 3 Diploma of Agriculture
Currently – Working on a dairy farm in New Zealand
“I came from a non-farming background to Llysfasi and didn’t feel I knew anything regarding farming when I first started. The tutors taught the basics and my knowledge grew quite quickly and so did my interest in the subject – particularly in the livestock classes. I felt most passionate about the practical sessions and enjoyed undertaking tasks I had never done before and I feel they prepped me sufficiently enough to start working.
“I currently work on a dairy farm in New Zealand, managing a herd of 500 cows; their health, nutrition and grass management for my herd’s paddocks on the farm. I feel as though Llysfasi prepared me for the basic practical skills such as vaccinating in practicals and milking the farm duties we undertook. It is good to see what the tutors were teaching us about in real life.”
