At Coleg Cambria we want to engage you and our staff in becoming active, healthy and mindful. We’d like to create a future with a proactive and diverse workforce for Wales and the UK.
Active Cambria has helped us to do just that. We’ve seen a positive change in the culture at Coleg Cambria, with staff and students becoming more conscious about their health, wellbeing and physical activity levels.
With Active Cambria, we offer free fitness, wellness and health activities as well as advice days to everyone at Coleg Cambria, engaging and supporting our staff and students to change any bad habits into good ones. We’ve seen many students and staff prosper from the opportunities given to them, such as reduced blood pressure, increase in confidence, improved emotional development and weight loss.
Active Cambria also offers you hands-on experience to develop yourself and your CV through coaching opportunities, Duke of Edinburgh, various coaching awards, volunteering in the community or within the college and Erasmus plus projects.
We at Coleg Cambria understand how important health and wellbeing is for you and for our staff, too. There’s been an increase in the amount of people developing conditions such as anxiety, stress, depression and health-related diseases in the country in recent years.
With Active Cambria, we’d like to offer opportunities to help reduce or prevent these conditions. The activities on offer compliment the work carried out by our student services team, human resources department and lecturing staff.
The Active Mind, Body and Soul sessions are there to develop your understanding of the importance of being mindful, how physical activity helps the body and how developing the soul can help motivate and improve your own personal growth. These sessions consist of a health and wellbeing talk, complimented by physical activities such as yoga, pilates, dodgeball and football.
You can get advice from trained professionals and college champions in health and fitness related issues. The college has trained Personal Instructors and Professionals on hand to help you. You can also access a wide range of free physical activities provided by Active Cambria to help reduce stress, anxiety and health related disease.
Active Cambria offers rooms at all its sites where you can go to have some mindfulness time. Our student and staff intranet offers fact sheets to improve health, diet, sleep and fitness levels and a physical activity card pack.
Not only do we offer a wide range of fitness and sporting activities that allow you to be active during your time working or studying at the college, they’re also FREE. We understand the importance of keeping active, especially after sitting down for most of the day during lessons and work.

Coleg Cambria has fitness rooms for staff to use for free at our Deeside and Llysfasi site, along with an onsite private gym called Lifestyle Fitness within the Deeside site and a brand new gym at our Yale site. There are numerous private gyms located by our Bersham and Yale site and Coleg Cambria also offers a variety of staff discounts for local gyms in Wrexham, Flintshire and Cheshire as part of our staff benefit hub.
During your time at Coleg Cambria, you’ll have lots of opportunities to develop your ‘softer’ skills, like confidence, timekeeping, resilience and teamwork. Active Cambria can also offer you opportunities to develop your coaching, IT skills, administration and marketing, both in college and the local community to enhance your personal skills.
There’s a volunteering programme called ‘Trusted Leaders’ available to join, where you’re awarded with Millennium volunteer certificates, coaching qualifications, trips away and mentoring to enable you to grow. Staff who help can be placed on the college’s Champions group. This volunteering can help you with DofE, Welsh Baccalaureate and CV enhancing.
Do you have a particular talent or ability? We can help you to develop and nourish it with the work we do alongside the MAT programme.
If you (or your child) have a talent you want to share, please let the college know. If your talent lies in coaching, nutrition, IT, Marketing or fitness let our Active Cambria staff know at activecambria@cambria.ac.uk.
