Access Blended delivery is a credit based, modular course which can be studied full time over a period of one year (34 academic weeks) running from January to December, (with a summer break). The course is offered at 53% face to face contact, running between 9.15am and 6.30pm on a Wednesday, and the remainder as online e-learning which can be completed in a time that suits you during your week.

An important aspect of this programme is your own personal time management and it is crucial that you plan ahead in regards to your allocation of both online and independent studies. Having such a plan in place will support you and your success.

Course Overview
The Diploma aims to prepare learners for study at university. The course comprises of mandatory modules in the specialist subjects together with Core Skills Studies. The units include subjects such as Anatomy & Physiology, Sociology and Health.

The core skills will include communication and study skills, for example. In addition to formal lectures and online study, there is also a work placement module (no placement is required).
The programme is achieved by continuous assessment, the majority of which is assignment work with some experience of timed tests or examination situations. Credits are achieved on satisfactory completion of each unit of study. To be awarded an Access to HE Diploma, 60 credits must be achieved, which include a number of mandatory credits. Level 3 credits are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.

On successful completion of the full programme of study students are awarded the Agored Cymru ‘QAA – recognised’ Access to H.E. Diploma.
GCSE grade C/4 in English/ Welsh (1st Language) or Maths, with at least grade D/3 in the other subject.
Or
Level 2 AON or Communication, with at least Level 1 in the other subject.

Experience in a suitable Health Care setting is preferred. Applicants should be 19+ to study this course.

Learners should be committed to a level 3 full time programme and developing their ability to study. IT skills are essential as a substantial part of the course is delivered on-line.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact individual universities for information about entry requirements. Many Nursing degree courses ask for GCSEs at C/4 or above in Maths and English.
The Health Care qualification is designed for learners wishing to progress to degree courses to make their careers in the care sector such as Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Radiography or Health Management.
Some courses may require equipment and/or uniforms to be purchased.
