Course Overview
The course will provide a brief introduction to and overview of the history of a range of alternative photographic processes available to photographers today. This will then be followed by an introduction to the preparation and creation of digital negatives and wax paper negatives, which will be used in practical application of a number of alternative processes which will include:

Lumen prints, cyanotype and gum bichromate.

As this is an introductory course we will discuss the health and safety concerns around preparation of chemistry and papers for the processes we will use, and all materials will be prepared in advance of the sessions by staff to avoid any potential health and safety issues.
N/A – non accredited
An interest in art and specifically photography is required – but no previous experience is necessary.
Participants will be able to use work created as part of a portfolio to promote their independent creative work, or for the purposes of applying to higher education. The workshop might be a starting point for a career in alternative photographic printing – either commercially or for your own artwork.

It might also be a stepping stone to possible further in-depth courses for these processes and other similar courses in the future at the college.
