Course Overview
The course will provide a brief introduction to techniques and design principles for laser cutting and etching projects.
Participants will use Adobe Illustrator to design and prepare two projects for cutting and etching on the art department's laser cutter. These will then be cut outside of sessions due to the time this takes and will be available for collection from the college in time for Christmas.
The projects made during your time on the course might make perfect personalised Christmas gifts, and will include:
A personalised bookmark or key ring, and a small, personalised trinket box

You must be a confident computer user to take part in this course, and should have an interest in art, specifically in the creative application of 3D design.
Participants will be able to use work created as part of a portfolio to promote their independent creative work, or for the purposes of applying to higher education. The workshop might be a starting point for an ongoing interest in laser cutting that might lead to selling your own work, with many creatives on Etsy and similar platforms offering laser cut products for sale these days.
This course might also be useful for teachers and other education staff who may have access to laser cutting equipment in a place of work, but who cannot access training for this.
It might also be a stepping stone to possible further in-depth courses for laser cutting application and other similar courses in the future at the college.
