Course Overview
This qualification has been developed specifically for learners who, as experienced playworkers, are developing, leading and reviewing permanent or temporary play provision within a changing environment .

This qualification has been designed to assess the knowledge and skills necessary to develop, lead and review play provision. Set within an analytical and reflective construct, the learner must understand and apply the Playwork Principles in order to develop and implement an organisational framework for children and young people’s play.

An assessor will provide support throughout the qualification and workshops are available to support learning.
There are six mandatory units in this award. There are also two additional units that can be taken if the setting provides the learner with the appropriate work based opportunities. Typical units include relating to/contributing to positive relationships in the play setting; supporting children and young people’s play; dealing with accidents and emergencies; contributing to team work. The award will further develop the skills you are already using and will improve confidence and employability.

Assessment includes observations by a qualified assessor in a relevant work setting. Assessment methods are related to vocational competence, that is, assessing how well the learner carries out the duties of their role against specific criteria and values. Each learner will be assigned an assessor who will observe them at regular intervals in the workplace performing their job role. These observations will be supplemented by oral and written questioning and reflective accounts by the learner.
Learners should be experienced playworkers in a management role in the setting. A level 3 qualification in either early years or Playwork is desirable.
This qualification may enable learners to progress into employment as:
● managers of playwork settings
● playwork development officers
● trainers/lecturers

or to the following qualifications:
● generic management qualifications
● PTTLS
● foundation degree/degree
