City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Trees and Timber (Coppicing & Greenwood Trades)

This qualification is designed for those learners working in arboriculture, in both the public and private sectors, which have identified it necessary to complement their training and experience and to provide evidence of their competence required for employment and/or career progression in the arboriculture sector
Pathways include forestry establishment, maintenance and harvesting, green wood trades, and arboriculture.
The course aims to provide learners with the opportunity to acquire the essential skills, knowledge and understanding required for employment in arboriculture and related industries, and to enable them to progress to advanced study provide a stimulating and supportive learning environment for learners to develop their potential contribution to arboriculture and associated industries develop underpinning knowledge within the subject area, by promoting and encouraging the development of new techniques and learning activities

The qualification includes mandatory and optional units
Learners must achieve a minimum of 37 credits.
This will be made up of 28 credits from the mandatory units to include in areas such as but not exclusive to
● Control local pollution incidents in the environmental and land-based industries
● Identify tree species and associated plants
● Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
● Fell and process small trees
● Cross-cut and stack small diameter timber using a chainsaw
● Chainsaw maintenance
● NPTC Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Trees and Timber independent assessment
Plus at least 9 credits from optional units in areas such as but not exclusive to

● Manually Plant trees
● Carry out non chemical post-planting protection and maintenance
● Prepare and Operate machinery to Fell Trees
● Prepare and maintain safe working site for arboricultural operations from the ground
● Lay a hedge
● Tree protection and maintenance for newly planted coppice
