Course Overview
This qualification is designed to enhance the knowledge, understanding, behaviours, and skills needed for professional practice in the children's care, play, learning, and development sector. It is specifically targeted towards individuals working in regulated childcare settings with families and children under the age of 8, as well as NHS children's services for those working with families and children aged 0-19.

The aim of this qualification is to equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in professional roles within childcare or health settings. To obtain the qualification, learners must choose one of three pathways: working with families and carers to enhance parenting skills, working with children who have Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN), or recognising and supporting children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
This course is structured to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and challenges within the children's care sector. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills development, learners will be better equipped to support children and families effectively.

Overall, this qualification serves as a foundation for individuals seeking to excel in professional practice within the children's care, play, learning, and development sector. By completing this course, learners will be well-prepared to make a positive impact in their roles and contribute to the well-being and development of children and families.
Candidates on this course are required to successfully complete a series of external assessed assignments following a series of taught sessions held at one of our sites, a portfolio of evidence, and a project which includes written tasks, direct observation of practice, and a professional discussion. These assessments have been carefully designed to allow candidates to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, and skills related to both the mandatory units and their chosen pathway content.

The assessments encompass a range of written elements to assess knowledge and understanding, as well as practical elements that involve the direct observation of learner practice to validate their proficiency in the practical skills required for their chosen pathway content. This comprehensive assessment structure ensures that candidates are able to showcase their competence within the sector at a higher level.
This qualification is practice-based and assesses learners’ knowledge and practice. It is designed for learners in work-based learning, further education and higher education.

This qualification provides progression for learners who have completed the Level 3 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development (Practice) qualification or QCF Children’s Care Learning and Development Level 3.
The qualification allows learners to progress within their employment or further study at a higher level.
