Course Overview
Do you play video games? Have you ever wondered how they are made? Would you like to learn how to make scenes for a level in a computer game?

The course for you is HERE!

The Introduction to Computer Game Creation course will take you through the basics of digital game creation. The course aims to show you the basics of digital game creation, applying different techniques that most of us interested in gaming have seen time and time again.

This software is used to create 3D environments, and as such is also relevant for people or companies interested in things like Virtual Reality and Digital Twin development.

At the end of this course, you will be able to use the techniques demonstrated, within the Unreal Engine 5 program. Unreal Engine is a free piece of software owned by Epic Games. You will use techniques to create a first-person shooter where you will also add some Artificial Intelligence to an enemy. You will also learn how to create the player’s health bar, set up dangerous objects that can damage the player’s health, pick up collectible items and a whole host of other useful game creation techniques.

The course awards a Gateway Qualifications Level 2 Award in Games Design and Development.

Unit Learning Outcomes
1. Be able to understand different types of computer games
2. Be able to design a computer game in response to a client brief
3. Be able to develop and test a computer game
4. Be able to review a computer game

In this unit, learners will develop an initial idea into a 2D or 3D game. You will create visuals to show what the game will look like, as well as a design specification that documents all aspects of the game. You will then create the assets for the game engine and add interaction to make a playable game. This unit also allows learners to obtain feedback on their work for review and further development.
Ongoing assessment via tasks and tutor monitoring. Formal assessment via portfolio of evidence
No prior knowledge is required other than a familiarity with the standard workings of a computer and standard software systems – however, past experience or familiarity with general IT and business systems is desirable.

Learn the technical skills you need to help you reach your goals and to give you the skills and tools you need for success.
This course will provide many skills necessary to assist with gaining employment in the creative media and games development sectors. This includes the development of 3D games and 3D environments in general. It is also increasingly being seen used in engineering and manufacturing sectors, in Virtual Reality platforms and Digital Twin creation.
