Course Overview
This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s knowledge of the principles and practices of assessment in a learning and development context.
The learning outcome’s the taught session will cover:
Understanding the principles and requirements of assessment
Understanding the different types of assessment methods
Understand how to plan assessment
Understand how to involve learners and others in assessment
Understand how to make assessment decisions
Understand own contribution to the quality of assessment
Understand how to manage information relating to assessment of occupational competence
Understand the legal and good practice requirements in relation to assessment
This knowledge only unit allows anyone who is interested in or needs to know about assessment - but is not a practitioner – to acquire knowledge and information about the processes.
Learners will either complete a written assignment or oral discussion for unit 301.
Monthly support and guidance (preparation for assignment and discussion)
Assessment and quality assurance of portfolio
Can be used in conjunction with unit 302/3 as part of the Assessor Award
Learners will need to be observed on several occasions and also provide work products to support the evidence requirements.

Need to be working for a recognised centre/organisation if completing extra units
These qualifications can be used for assessing accredited learning (Award,
Cert, NVQ) non-accredited learning (where people may assess performance
but do not assess for a qualification), e.g. in-house standards.
