Course Overview

A level Drama is a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable programme of study and offers a valuable experience for you if you have a keen interest and aptitude in this subject area.

Drama and Theatre studies offer the opportunity to deepen and broaden an intellectual and practical understanding of the subject area and to develop confidence, communication and presentation skills.

In year 1 you will understand and analyse live performances, study a set text and perform a scripted piece or do costume, lighting and set design.

In year 2 you will also understand and analyse live performances. You will also study two set texts analysing and looking at them through the eyes of a director, performer and designer.

If you undertake the performance element you will also devise a piece of original drama as well as perform a set text. If behind the scenes is more desirable to you, you may opt for the design element and arrange the costume, lighting or stage design for these performances. You will be required to attend professional theatre performances regularly.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English Language / Welsh (1st Language) and Maths.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
At AS Level
Unit 1-Theatre workshop is a practical non exam assessment which is internally assessed, and externally moderated.
Unit 2-Text in Theatre is a written examination.
