Course Overview

The Higher National qualification in Hospitality Management gives you the opportunity to progress to a management position in a wide range of service sector industries.

Study throughout the Hospitality Management course will be a mixture of theory and practical work; tasks and assignments which are set to reflect the connection between knowledge and practical skills in real life service industry. The HNC aims to equip individuals with knowledge, understanding and skills for success in a range of positions in Hospitality Management.

Students on this course will be required to undertake periods of self-study, in addition to taught hours.

Work Placement - This programme contains an essential work placement component. If you are not already in employment, the college will support you to find a work placement although this is not guaranteed.

Unit 1 The Contemporary Hospitality Industry
Unit 2 Managing Customers
Unit 3 Sustainable Hospitality Practice
Unit 4 The Hospitality Business Toolkit
Unit 5 Leadership and Management for Hospitality (Pearson Set)
Unit 6 Managing Food and Beverage Operations
Unit 13 Work Experience



Level 3 qualification in a related subject or relevant industry experience

GCSE grade C or above in English / Welsh and Maths or equivalent
The assessment of Edexcel BTEC Higher National qualifications is criterion referenced and you will be assessed against published learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Students will be assessed in a variety of ways including assignments, practical work, presentations and professional discussion.

All modules will be individually graded as ‘pass’, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’. To achieve a pass grade for the module you must meet the assessment criteria set out in the specifications. This gives transparency to the assessment process and provides for the establishment of national standards for each qualification

The Higher National Qualification in Hospitality Management provides students with a higher technical qualification which will be appropriate in pursuing career ambitions in the following sectors of the hospitality industry:

• Restaurant and Hotel management
• Corporate hospitality management
• Conferencing and events management

Upon successful completion of the HNC, you may wish to continue your studies towards a HND in Hospitality Management
HNC Full Time = £5,000 per academic year for 1 year.
