Course Overview
The Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design has been designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further study and training in a range of Art and Design subjects, including Fine Art, Photography, Graphic Design, Fashion, Textiles, Product Design and others. It is for those who have an interest in Art and Design or a related subject who wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience.
The programme of study will provide you with an introduction to a range of activities essential to the development and delivery of Art and Design outcomes including research, ideas development, the use of technical skills and evaluation.
It is designed to provide opportunities to explore the materials, methods and processes that support Art and Design activities and to begin to develop related technical skills. It will prepare you for further study at Level 3 and a career in Art and Design.
This course is made up of a variety of Art and Design units and you will develop skills through a range of activities to enable you to achieve. You will experience working in both 2D and 3D, such as drawing from observation, painting, textiles, CAD, photography, printmaking and ceramics.
There will be opportunities to work with practising artists, designers and craftspeople. There will be opportunities to work with practising professionals and you will participate in cultural and contextual activities supported through educational visits.
Your learning programme is made up of a number of qualifications. Coleg Cambria is committed to supporting your progression to employment or Higher Education. Therefore, all courses at Coleg Cambria provide the opportunity for the development of English and Maths to Level 2 and ideally to GCSE Grade C/4 if you haven't already achieved this at school/college. This will enhance your prospects in the jobs market and will also enable progression to Higher Education.
Students who successfully complete this course will gain the UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design.

Stage 1
September to November
You will explore ALL areas of the Creative Industries by taking part in a variety of workshops, you will learn a wide range of skills and techniques, as well as how to research effectively and present work in portfolios.
Stage 2
November to February
You will complete a project in 2D, a project in 3D and a project in 4D.
These projects will teach you how to plan and carry out a successful Art and Design project, whilst improving your skills, preparing you for the FMP.

March to June

You will work closely with your specialist subject tutor to develop your ideas. This project is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction, and will give you your final grade and is internally and externally assessed.

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language) and a grade D/3 or above including Art and Design.
For progression learners the successful completion of L1 Diploma in Art and Design qualification. A recommendation from course tutors at Level 1 is required.
All applicants will also undertake an art entrance project, which they must complete and pass.
At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course

Level 2 Diplomas are valued by employers and the course prepares you for employment in the Creative Industries. If you want to continue and progress with your studies you can take a Level 3 qualification in a similar subject such as Art & Design or Creative Media.
