Course Overview
The Level 3 Diploma in Production Arts can be taken as a one year Diploma or as a full two year Extended Diploma.
The Diploma in Backstage Theatre Production covers the skills required to work in Theatres, Music Venues, Festivals, TV & Film Studios and Stage, Event & Artist Management.
You will learn skills in the areas of production and stage management, stage lighting, live and recorded sound, projection mapping & A/V (Audio Visual) prop making, scenic construction and front of house operations.
These skills will be built vocationally by working on live productions such as plays, music gigs and musical performances and also through site specific projects, giving you a chance to creatively use your technical knowledge gained through studying on the course.
There is a focus on industry standard working practices, you will develop a portfolio of professional experience to enable you to either progress to employment in industry, or specialise further at university.
This course is a full-time vocational programme and is suitable for entry to a range of undergraduate degree courses nationally.
Your learning programme is made up of a number of qualifications including the Welsh Baccalaureate. Coleg Cambria is committed to supporting your progression to employment or Higher Education. Therefore, all courses at Coleg Cambria provide the opportunity for the development of English and Maths to Level 2 and ideally to GCSE Grade C if you haven't already achieved this at school/college. This will enhance your prospects in the jobs market and will also enable progression to Higher Education.
Students who successfully complete this course will gain the UAL Level 3 Diploma In Production Arts

Unit 8, which is a collaborative performance project, allows you to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other units. This unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and determines the overall qualification grade.
In order to achieve the Extended Diploma qualification (year 2), you must successfully pass 12 units including units 1–8 of the Diploma and in addition Units 9-12. Unit 12, which is an extended project, allows you to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other units. This unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and determines the overall qualification grade and is internally and externally assessed.

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language), or for progression learners the successful completion of L2 Creative Arts qualification such as Performing Arts.

This course may lead directly to a career within the industry, or Higher Education studying courses such as Stage Management, Lighting Design and Technology, Architectural Lighting, Technical Theatre Studies, Electrical Engineering, Broadcast Engineering, Live Events Production and Events Management.
