Course Overview
Entry to Motor Vehicle offers a fully supported programme for learners on the first step of their further education journey at college.

This course is aimed at those who wish to enter the Motor Vehicle service and Repair industry. You will learn about basic servicing and repair. Learners will develop some of the key skills and understanding in motor vehicle systems. Successful candidates will have the basic skills needed to progress onto the next level of qualification. This qualification could also be used as an ‘interest’ course for a wide range of learners.

The programme will give young people the opportunity to break down any barriers they may have to learn, allowing them to grow and develop personally, socially and academically in order to successfully achieve their full potential and progress to their next level of learning or future employment.

The core curriculum will help learners to develop their confidence, life and employability skills in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.

Enrichment activities will develop skills in communication, teamwork and leadership, helping to build confidence and overcome any anxieties or social barriers. During these activities, learners will work towards a Prince’s Trust Achieve Certificate and a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

Literacy and numeracy development will be a core focus for all learners and once ready, learners will have the opportunity to undertake Essential Skills Wales qualifications in Communication and Application of Number.

This course offers lots of practical tasks which will also help develop your Maths, English and Digital Literacy skills.

Learners will be assigned a Progress Coach who will support them throughout their time on the programme. They will ensure that any ALN support is put in place before learners start, and that any new support needs that may arise are incorporated into their programme to help them to succeed. The course is fully supported to meet individual needs and learning differences.

The programme is delivered over three days and will be a mixture of classroom, workshop and off site delivery.
Each learner will complete the WEST diagnostic assessments for literacy and numeracy. Students will work towards a range of units to help them achieve an Entry Life & Living Skills qualification, a Prince’s Trust Achieve qualification and a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award to support further progression into further education or work based learning.

Learners will be assessed using a range of methods including portfolio building, short online and written exams and practical assessments.

Practical assessments will be carried out during workshop activities and will be assessed in a realistic working environment.
This course is aimed at learners aged 16-18 years old.

The course is designed for learners working at entry level and formal qualifications are not required for entry onto this course.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Learners will be supported to plan their next steps throughout the course. Progression could be to one of the following:

● A higher level course in a vocational area of your choice
● JGW+
● Employment
● A community based programme
