Course Overview
This course is aimed at developing skills for working within the Media make-up industry. Learners interested in the Level 2 Hair and Media Make Up will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks. Interpersonal skills will be developed that will assist with effective communication with clients.
Throughout the course, learners will build a portfolio of their work which will be used as assessment evidence. The programme provides the skills and personal qualities that employers and Higher Education Institutions require.
An example of some of the units you will study are:
● Photographic makeup
● Face and body painting
● Lash and brow treatments
● Dressing and styling hair
In addition, the learning area programme consists of the following compulsory elements to the course:
● Essential Skills Wales training and assessments
● Development of Welsh language skills
● All learners must complete a work placement
Please note that your timetable may include some evening sessions. Dates will be provided by your tutor on Induction.

Coursework is by continuous assessment of practical and theoretical assessments.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language) or successful completion of Level 1 Beauty Therapy.

Progression routes for learners will be to Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical Special Effects and Media Make Up or to work in the creative makeup artistry sector.
Level 2 Hairdressing or Barbering or Level 2 Beauty Therapy and Nails (for those learners that want to specialise).
Employment within the sector is varied and can include working in film, fashion, TV or in theatre.
