Course Overview
The Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design & Media has been designed to provide you with an introduction to the creative sector, enabling you to make informed future progression choices while developing and applying knowledge and acquiring a range of relevant practical, communication and personal development skills.
This qualification is suitable for those who have an interest in Art, Design, Media or a related subject and wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience. You will develop and test your creativity within a structure that will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career demands and opportunities within the sector.
The course will allow you to develop your creativity whilst developing the skills necessary for a successful introduction to all areas of the Creative Industries, and will prepare you for progression to Level 2.
The programme of study is made up of a variety of Arts, and Media units and you will develop skills through a range of activities. You will experience working in 2D and 3D, such as drawing from Observation, Painting, CAD, Photography, and Ceramics. There will be opportunities to work with practising professionals and you will participate in cultural and contextual activities supported through educational visits.
Literacy and numeracy development will be a core focus for all learners on programme with each learner having the opportunity to undertake Essential Skills Wales qualifications in Communication and Application of Number or resit GCSEs in Maths and English.
Learners will be assigned a Progress Coach who will support them throughout their time on programme. They will ensure that any ALN support is put in place before learners start and that any new support needs that may arise are incorporated into their programme to help them to succeed. The course is fully supported to meet individual needs and learning differences
Students who successfully complete this course will gain the UAL Level 1 Diploma in Art Design and Media.

In order to achieve the qualification, you must successfully pass seven units. The final unit art design and media project, allows you to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other units. This unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and determines the overall qualification grade.
4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above including Art or an Art related subject and English Language/Welsh (1st Language)
All applicants will also undertake an entrance project, which they must complete and pass.
For all learners who are looking to progress onto this L1 course from an Entry programme you must have achieved your E3 qualification, progressed in Maths and English and hit all of the targets in your ILP.
At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
