Course Overview
The Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing & Production Arts has been designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to further study and training in a range of music, performance and production disciplines.

The qualification has been designed to provide you with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding that will enhance self-confidence and impart an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within the Creative Industries.

This qualification is suitable for those who may have an interest in music, performing and production arts to explore some of the materials, methods and processes that support many music, performing and production arts activities, and to begin to develop some related skills. The course will allow you to develop your creativity whilst developing the skills necessary for a successful introduction to all areas of the Creative Industries, and will prepare you for progression to Level 2.

The programme of study is made up of a variety of units and you will develop skills through a range of activities. You will be introduced to a range of activities essential to the development and delivery of a performance such as acting, vocal and movement skills as well as gaining an experience of backstage technical operations. There will be opportunities to work with practicing professionals and you will participate in cultural and contextual activities supported through educational visits.

Literacy and numeracy development will be a core focus for all learners on the programme with each learner having the opportunity to undertake Essential Skills Wales qualifications in Communication and Application of Number or resit GCSEs in Maths and English.

Learners will be assigned a Progress Coach who will support them throughout their time on programme. They will ensure that any ALN support is put in place before learners start and that any new support needs that may arise are incorporated into their programme to help them to succeed. The course is fully supported to meet individual needs and learning differences.

Students who successfully complete this course will gain the UAL Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing and Production Arts.
In order to achieve the qualification, you must successfully pass all six units. The final unit -Music, Performing and Production Arts project, allows you to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other units. This unit is graded pass, merit or distinction and determines the overall qualification grade.
4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths

All applicants will also undertake an entrance workshop, which they must attend and successfully complete.

For all learners who are looking to progress onto this L1 course from an entry programme you must have achieved your E3 qualification, progressed in Maths and English and hit all of the targets in your ILP.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
If you want to continue and progress with your studies, you can take a Level 2 qualification in a similar subject such as Performing Arts, or Music that will also prepare you for employment in the Creative Industries.
Some courses may require kit/uniform to be purchased. Please see attached kit list for further information.
