Course Overview
The Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing is for learners seeking a career as a Stylist.
This qualification is based on Hairdressing National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's lead hairdressing professional association (The Hairdressing Council) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a Senior Hairdresser/Stylist.
This course is a mixture of theory and advanced practical skills. The development of a range of additional technical skills focused on colouring, cutting and styling techniques will enhance creativity and professionalism.
Throughout the course, learners will build a portfolio of their work which will be used as assessment evidence. The programme provides the skills and personal qualities that employers and Higher Education Institutions require.
The Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing consists of the following units:
● Cut hair using a combination of techniques
● Creatively colour and lighten hair
● Hairdressing consultation services
● Creatively style and dress hair
● Hair colour correction services
There are additional optional units that will be selected at the beginning of the academic year.
Learners will complete regular work experience sessions at the commercial salon at Yale, Salon Ial whilst studying their qualifications. Developing employability skills is a fundamental aspect of this course.
In addition to the Level 3 Hairdressing qualification, the learning area programme consists of the following compulsory elements to the course:
● Essential Skills Wales training and assessments
● Development of Welsh language skills
● All learners must complete a work placement

Coursework is by continuous assessment and learners can gain a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Successful completion of the Hairdressing Level 2 qualification.
Progression routes for learners will be to HE or to work within the Hairdressing sector. Learners wishing to progress to HE will require sufficient UCAS points for postgraduate study.
Career opportunities are available within a salon as a Stylist, Supervisor or Colour Specialist.
