Course Overview
This course will prepare you for work within the Health and Social Care sector, which is equivalent to 3 A levels.
In order to achieve a 3 A level qualification across the 2 years to support your University applications, you will be offered the opportunity to complete extended units which will include Science elements.
We also offer for you to resit your Biology GCSE part time which is delivered during the evening, please refer to our website for further information.
You will study a range of topics to develop and demonstrate your knowledge, skills and understanding within the context of Health and Social Care services which includes current issues in relation to Health and Social Care, Principles of Care and Safe Practice, factors affecting individual growth and development and the impact on care and support needs, promoting rights, supporting individuals at risk and working within the Health Care sector.
New learners will also achieve the HSC Core qualification alongside their Level 3 programme to help prepare them to work within the sector.
There is a significant placement element attached to the course and you will be required to undertake a minimum of 150 hours in a relevant setting, during your first year and then continue your placement during your second year.

This course is assessed through internal assessment and external assessment which includes assignments and examinations.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English/Welsh 1st Language and Maths and preferably Science, or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification which includes:
● Level 2 Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts
● GCSE Health and Social Care, and Childcare
● Level 2 Health and Social Care: Core, or
● Level 2 Children’s Care, Play Learning and Development: Core.
Learners who have not yet completed the Level 2 Health and Social Care Core will also complete this qualification alongside their level 3.
At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.

Learners may progress directly into employment in a range of jobs, including HCA, Physio Aide, Project Worker, Ambulance Technician.
The qualification provides a suitable foundation for the study of health and social care through a range of higher education courses such as Social Work, Teaching, Health Promotion, Psychology, Physiotherapy, OT, Midwifery, Nursing and Radiography.
