Course Overview
The course will develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed in preparation to join a chosen public service. This course will give learners the opportunity to develop the teamwork, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills used within those services.
Additionally, students will undertake mandatory subjects such as Health and safety in the Uniformed Services, Health and hygiene in the Uniformed Services, Exploring equality and diversity for the Uniformed Services, Follow Uniformed Service Routine, Investigate employment in the Uniformed Services, Physical fitness for the Uniformed Services and optional units such as Undertake adventurous activities and Exploring volunteering and volunteering opportunities.
In addition to this main programme, all students will be undertaking community engagement activities, volunteering opportunities and residential work experience with the British Army. Students will also be able to re-sit GCSEs in English Language and Maths or Essential Skills if required. For those with GCSE English and Maths,there will be extension activities to help continue to improve literacy and numeracy skills.

Learners will be assessed through a range of methods including, field trips, written assignments, oral presentations, practical activities and other work related experience. Assessment on this programme will be continuous and achievement can be either at Pass, Merit or Distinction level.
During the course, learners will benefit from outdoor expeditions, visits to various public service establishments (subject to availability) as well as visits by personnel from a variety of uniformed public services. There may also be visits to activity centres such as: Glan Llyn week or Kingswood Colomendy, Alderford Water Park and Chill Factore.
This course requires *equipment and uniforms to be purchased. *There may also be some payable trips that are necessary to fulfil assessment criteria.

The course will be an ideal base for progression into apprenticeships with the Armed Services or the NCFE Level 3 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Protective Services.
It is also of particular benefit for individuals who wish to enter and pursue a career in the Uniformed Public Services such as: the British Army, Royal Navy or the Royal Air Force or Emergency Services such as the Police, Fire or Ambulance Service or finally the Prison Service or Border Agency.
