Course Overview
The course will develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed in preparation to join a chosen Uniformed Service organisation.
Those organisations include:
Criminal Justice and Offender Management establishments such as the Police, Prison Service or Border Agency. The Fire and Rescue Service , the Armed Services such as the British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy or alternatively further study within a related area at University.
In this course you will study a variety of theoretical and practical mandatory topics such as:
● Prepare for a career in a chosen Uniformed Service
● Develop aspects of Physical Fitness
● Develop Leadership Skills
● Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Optional units will include an:
● Uniformed services hierarchy and routine
● Skills for Land-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
● Skills for Water-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
● Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
● Volunteering in the uniformed services
All students will study for their Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification at advanced level and will be expected to undertake both a Global Community Project and Future Destinations Project.
Additionally, they will also be expected to volunteer for community engagement as well as undertake residential and work experience activities
Learners will also be working to improve their literacy and numeracy throughout the course.

Learners will be assessed through a range of methods including, work and voluntary experiences,written assignments, oral presentations, practical activities and other skill development exercises. Assessment on this programme will be continuous and achievement can be either at Pass, Merit or Distinction level.
During the course, learners will benefit from visits to various Uniformed Service establishments (subject to availability), Natural Resource Parks and Outdoor and adventurous expedition centres such as: Glan Llyn week or Kingswood Colomendy, Alderford Water Park and Chill Factore. They will also receive visits from voluntary agencies and organisations relevant to their career and this programme. Finally, there will also be visits by personnel from a wide variety of Uniformed Services including the Police and Armed Services.
This course requires *equipment and uniforms to be purchased. *There may also be some payable trips that are necessary to fulfil assessment criteria.

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths and English/Welsh (1st Language).
For progression learners – successful completion of a level 2 course and working at the equivalent of GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English is required.

The course will be an ideal base for progression into either Police apprenticeships, Fire and Rescue Service apprenticeships, Armed Service apprenticeships or alternatively Higher Education.
Former students have studied subjects as diverse as Criminal Justice, Policing Studies, Sport, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology or a HND in Public Services.
It will also be a particular benefit for individuals who wish to enter and pursue a career in the British Army, the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy, Prison Service or the Border Agency.
Former students have studied subjects as diverse as Criminal Justice, Policing Studies, Sport, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology or a HND in Public Services.
