Course Overview
Course Purpose
This qualification will provide learners with an opportunity to develop an understanding of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) relevant to their current or future roles and will equip them with basic understanding of techniques for preventing and addressing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in practice.
This course aims to:
Focus on the study of ACEs
Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge.
Upon completion, this course will enable the learner to:
Explore childhood and family structures
Explore ACEs and understand potential outcomes for children enduring ACEs
Understand the role of the practitioner supporting children impacted by ACEs
Develop strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by ACEs.
The qualification focuses on the 0−18 age range. Learners will cover the
full range of ages but focus on their own experience/age group as
appropriate to their work and job roles.

Learners are required to successfully achieve 3 mandatory units via portfolio of evidence.
This qualification is designed for learners wishing to increase their knowledge and understanding of adverse childhood experiences. Learners should be aged 19 or above to undertake this qualification. This is a knowledge only qualification therefore, work placement experience is not required. However, learners may find it helpful if they have an interest or working in this industry and have a desire to upskill or have already achieved a Level 1 health and social care/child development related qualification.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to higher levels of responsibility within their workplace organisation. In addition, learners could potentially progress to other areas of academic study:
