Course Overview

Unit aim

This unit enables the learner to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully machine by Computer Numerical Control (CNC).

It includes;
● Access to simulation software for CNC part-programming,
● Preparation of 2 axis and 3 axis CNC machines,
● The correct selection and preparing of work holding methods required,
● The correct selection and mounting of tooling ready for tool probing and measuring.
It also covers the operations required and safe working practices to complete the machining operations.

Learning outcomes

There are four learning outcomes to this unit. The learner will:
● Be able to produce CNC part-programs
● Be able to set-up CNC machine tools
● Be able to produce parts using CNC machine tools
● Be able to reinstate the work area
*Night courses will require a sufficient number of learners to run. Please register to show interest for a desired course.

End of year written test and a practical assignment
