Sustainability at Cambria
We are dedicated to driving positive and sustainable change across the College and building sustainability into everything we do.
Find out more about our initiatives below.
We want to lead, inspire and collaborate with our staff, students and local communities to collectively embrace a sustainable culture that benefits us all and minimises our impact on the environment.
At Coleg Cambria, our Environment and Sustainability Policy and our 2020–2030 Carbon Strategy aren’t just documents—they are the blueprints for everything we do. We are committed to embedding sustainable thinking into our daily operations and driving measurable environmental improvements across all our sites.
To keep us on track, our Sustainability Committee provides the governance and scrutiny needed to reach our goals. Chaired by our Chief Operating Officer, the committee brings together a diverse mix of staff, students, and union representatives to ensure every voice is heard. We report our progress annually to the Board of Governors, ensuring transparency as we work toward our ambitious Net Zero by 2040 goal.

Hendre teaching building at Llysfasi
The college's first Carbon Neutral Building. Furthermore, this project, alongside the Nant building at Yale, has been designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Major Decarbonisation Funding
Securing £1.7 million in 25/26 to replace a gas boiler with an Air Source Heat Pump; install 320 kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic panels, 36 x accessible Electric Vehicle chargers, and smart energy monitoring controls. Funded by the Welsh Government.

Harnessing the Sun
Over 1,300 solar panels are installed across the campuses. In 2024/25, our solar PV generation reached 265,215 kWh. Enough to power 98 homes for an entire year, or an Electric car to drive around the Earth's equator more than 42 times, or make roughly two round-trips to the Moon!

Saving Trees
We reduced our A4 paper use by 5% (112,819 sheets of paper, or 13.5 trees), compared with 23/24.
