If you enjoy working with your hands, learning new skills, and have an interest in agriculture, conservation, forestry, or land-based machinery, this Level 1 course is designed for you.
This course is perfect for school leavers or adults new to the land-based sector who want to gain essential knowledge and skills. It's your first step towards further study or an entry-level job in these exciting industries. Don't worry if you're new to the field; this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed.
What You'll Learn
You'll develop practical skills through hands-on experience, working with farm machinery, forestry tools, building and repairing wildlife habitats, and assisting with health treatments for farm livestock.
The course includes two mandatory subjects:
● Safe and effective working in the land-based industries
● Preparing to work in the land-based industries
You'll also explore five additional subjects:
● Assist with the use of transport and the maintenance of tools and equipment
● Contribute to the construction and maintenance of structures and surfaces
● Carry out tractor operations
● Introduction to wildlife and conservation
● Introduction to production livestock and breeds
Beyond the Classroom
Educational trips, including trade shows and industrial visits, are an important part of your learning journey.
This highly successful course provides a comprehensive introduction to all our land-based areas. You'll not only develop practical skills specific to these industries but also enhance a wide range of adaptable skills such as planning, communication, and teamwork. Literacy and numeracy are integrated into the course, ensuring you gain well-rounded work skills.

4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above including Maths or English Language/Welsh (1st Language) or Science, or successful completion of a relevant Entry Level qualification.
Students progressing from Entry 3 Level must show Literacy and Numeracy skills at Entry 3 Level or above in order to enrol.
At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.

You’ll demonstrate your learning throughout the course through a variety of assessments designed to support your development. These include:
● Observation of your practical skills.
● Verbal questioning to check your understanding.
● Written assignments.
● Two online tests.

Upon successfully completing this course, you could progress to a Level 2 qualification in your chosen land-based industry. To move on to Level 2 courses, you’ll need to achieve your Level 1 qualification and a GCSE in Maths and Welsh 1st Language/English at grade D/3 or equivalent.
Alternatively, you could pursue employment or a Trainee Apprenticeship within the sector, gaining valuable experience while you learn.
