Why Choose An Apprenticeship?

Kickstart your career with an apprenticeship and earn as you learn.

Across North Wales and beyond, companies are recruiting for apprenticeships and training people in the skills they need to succeed in their career.

As an apprentice you will earn whilst you learn, gaining skills, knowledge, experience and recognised qualifications along the way. Whether you’re aged between 16 and 19 or 20 and over, a range of apprenticeship options may be available to you.

Fabrication and welding is a huge industry that manufactures metal work for a wide variety of industries and uses

Apprentices will spend time at our recently refurbished state of the art facilities at our Deeside and Bersham Road campus for day release or assessment as well as being assessed onsite by our industry served assessing teams.

Fabrication and welding apprentices should have good practical skills and be able to follow technical information and diagrams

Level 2 & 3 Fabrication & Welding Apprentice Iain Byrne

Iain Byrne

Studied – Level 1, 2 & 3 Fabrication & Welding

Currently – Continuous Improvement & Maintenance Manager at Steel4Structures

I studied Fabrication and welding at Coleg Cambria and completed my level 1 full time then did level 2 & 3 as an Apprentice with Steel4Structures.

“I started my Apprenticeship as a fabricator welder and worked my way up to being a Production Supervisor. In September I was promoted to Continuous Improvements & Maintenance Manager where I repair equipment and improve the workshop in terms of efficiency and employee comfort and enjoyability.

“I’m now studying a HNC in Mechanical Engineering at the Cambria University Centre. I really enjoyed studying at Coleg Cambria which is why I decided to study my HNC there.

“The welding workshops are great and well laid out with good equipment which definitely helped improve my skills quickly. The lecturers and work based practitioners are great, they are really knowledgeable and the smaller class sizes meant we could get the most out of the sessions. I also had the opportunity to take part in the Skills Wales competitions and I won gold in 2020 and 2021 for construction metalwork.

“As a mature student coming fresh into the industry the courses gave me a great grounding and working knowledge, it helped me get an apprenticeship with Steel4Structures and has opened new doors in that company to me.”

Tracey Griffiths

Studied – Level 2 Children’s, Care, Play, Learning and Development

Currently – Nursery Practitioner & Temporary Room Manager at The Homestead Day Nursery

“I came back into education as I wanted a change of career, I applied and was offered a role with The Homestead as an Apprentice Nursery Practitioner with the understanding that I complete my level 2 in childcare alongside my new job.

“Being an Apprentice has enabled me to start my journey into childcare whilst still working and it has helped me to find a career I now love, all in just over a year. My Work Based Learning Practitioner Lisa was so supportive and encouraging throughout the course which made a huge difference. The week I completed the course I was offered the Temporary Room Managers role to cover maternity leave.

“Starting an Apprenticeship at a later stage in your working life can be daunting but age is just a number, follow what feels right! You are never too late to start a new journey.”
