At Coleg Cambria, we’re entering our sixth year in partnership with Connah’s Quay Nomads FC, who are one of the top teams in Welsh domestic football.
We’re taking a leaf out of Connah’s Quay Nomads FC first team curriculum, by providing a comprehensive training schedule. Mirroring their curriculum will ensure you have the best technical, tactical and physical development.
Monday 16:00 – 18:00 – Strength and Conditioning / Technical Training

All home fixtures are played at Connah’s Quay 3G @ CQHS
You’ll have the opportunity to volunteer for Connah’s Quay Nomads Academy. You’ll also be able to gain some of the FAW Football coaching qualifications if you want that under your belt.

In our most recent Estyn report, inspectors rated the college as ‘excellent’, making Cambria one of the most successful colleges in the UK, and the highest performing college in Wales.
Step 1 – Any player who is interested in the programme is invited to attend the March Open Event.
Step 2 – All players who attend the open evening are then asked to complete an expression of interest, detailing their reasons for wanting to be part of the programme as well as their ambitions going forward.
Step 3 – Following this, all expressions of interest are reviewed by CQN and a number of players are selected for trial.
Step 4 – Finally, players are then selected from trial and are encouraged to complete their college enrolment.

You will also be given the opportunities to complete further qualifications alongside your elite team.
The college team holds trials during September, with competitive fixtures beginning soon after. We’re always looking for new players to strengthen the squad, so don’t worry; we’re able to give you an opportunity to join the team even if you miss the initial trial in September.

The Wrexham AFC Community Trust Football & Education is a new programme recruiting both men and women between the ages 16-18 to become part of the Football & Education Scholarship Programme.
Sports students will train weekly with Wrexham AFC Community Trust staff, competing in Community Football & Education Alliance representing Wrexham AFC.
Student will be expected to study with Cambria with the opportunity to complete a level 2 or level 3 sport qualification, there will also be opportunities to complete additional qualifications to further enhance your career.
Join a true team sport and play netball with Coleg Cambria. Your size and ability doesn’t matter in netball, there’s a position on the court for you.
Our team is based on the Yale campus, but we’re made up of learners from both Deeside and Yale sites. Each year sees girls from different clubs in North East Wales coming together to compete for Coleg Cambria, and that could be you!
We’ve had successes in the AOC league and we were the Welsh College Champions in 2021 and 2022 and are the current Wales President Cup Champions in 2023.
Training is held on Wednesday afternoons where we focus on your skill development, strength and conditioning, and also strategy development.
Matches are also scheduled for Wednesday afternoons.
We have links with Welsh netball, so we can offer you the opportunity to develop your umpiring experiences if that’s something you want. Also, if you have an interest in coaching you will also be offered the opportunity to volunteer at local netball clubs.
Cambria currently competes in the AOC North West Netball League. The team also competes in the AOC Cup and the Welsh Colleges Competition.

If you have an interest in playing netball, we would really like you to participate in our programme. We hold trials at the beginning of term for selection to our two teams. Our first team competes in the AOC league. We offer a recreational team for you if you’d rather not compete, but wish to play for enjoyment and socialise with your friends.

Cambria Dragons is a sports team made up of ILS students. The team plays a variety of sports against other colleges. These are things like boccia (bowling), tennis, football, handball and netball.
To play, a player must have an additional learning need. We enter cup competitions and the Association of Colleges Panability League. We have a lot of fun and enjoy friendly competition. The Cambria Dragons practice teamwork, communication, British Values and sports skills.
We believe that students studying on all courses at Cambria should have the opportunity to represent our elite teams. We are committed to combining academic and sporting excellence, supporting our students ambitions in the classroom and on the field of play.
