Gain a deep, multi-dimensional understanding of the lives of young people. By blending psychology and sociology, this program gives you the tools to navigate the complexities of child development and advocate for children’s rights in a modern world.

From mastering safeguarding policies to exploring global educational perspectives, you will bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world impact. Through hands-on professional placements, you’ll gain specialised experience in areas like Additional Learning Needs (ALN), graduating as a confident, research-ready professional prepared to excel in any setting.

We welcome applications from students with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. To join the BA (Hons) Childhood and Adolescent Studies programme, you will typically need:

UCAS Tariff: 96–112 points from GCE A Levels or equivalent qualifications (such as BTECs).
Core Essentials: GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English or Welsh (First Language).

Your Experience Matters: We believe that passion and professional experience are just as valuable as formal grades. If you do not meet the standard UCAS requirements but have a background in relevant work or voluntary sectors, we encourage you to apply. We review non-traditional applications on an individual basis

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Police check is required. Please note that a DBS check is required to undertake placements. If you plan to carry out your placement(s) with your current place of work and already have a DBS check in place with them, you will be required to bring in your DBS certificate for vetting and you will need to allow us to record the DBS certificate number. If you plan to carry out your placement(s) in a setting for which you do not currently have a valid DBS check in place, you will be required to complete a DBS check via Coleg Cambria. Currently, the college pays for the cost of your DBS check. You will be required to bring in your DBS check for vetting and you will need to allow us to record the DBS certificate number.

This degree is a springboard to a meaningful career in education, social care, or policy. Graduates excel in diverse roles, including Youth Work, Family Support, Community Development, and ALN Coordination.

If you aim to specialise further, this programme provides the ideal foundation for postgraduate pathways such as:

Teaching (PGCE) to achieve Qualified Teacher Status.
Master’s degrees in Social Work, Play Therapy, or Child Psychology.

Whether you enter the workforce directly or pursue advanced professional training, you will graduate with the expertise to advocate for children and lead change in your community.

Travel costs to and from a work placement are to be covered by the student.
