Course Overview

This advanced course offers an in-depth look at the floristry industry, designed to sharpen your skills and prepare you for a senior role with more responsibility. You’ll move beyond the basics, stretching your creativity to gain the experience needed for professional employment.

What you’ll learn

You will explore a wide range of professional topics through hands-on practice and expert-led theory, including:

- The Creative Design Process: Master the journey from initial idea to finished arrangement.
- Specialist Floral Techniques: Develop advanced skills in tied designs, working with different mediums, and intricate wired or glued floral work.
- Plant and Flower Care: Gain expert knowledge on keeping your materials fresh and vibrant.
- Event and Wedding Floristry: Learn how to design for large-scale events and weddings.
- Business and Marketing: Understand how to manage a floristry business and market your services effectively.
- Industry Trends: Stay ahead of the curve by exploring the latest styles and innovations.

You won’t just be in a classroom; you’ll be working on real-life projects. You will have the chance to:

- Plan and execute weddings from start to finish, creating innovative designs that bring a bride's vision to life.
- Perform public demonstrations, building your confidence and professional profile.
- Enter prestigious competitions, such as the British Flower Association (BFA) Newcomer of the Year.

How you’ll grow
Our passionate, expert staff and fantastic facilities will give you a head start in your career. We believe learning should be fun and engaging, so you’ll experience a mix of practical work, group projects, and modern learning technology.

We also help you strengthen the essentials; English and Maths are integrated into the programme to improve your literacy and numeracy, with opportunities to re-sit GCSEs if needed.

You will need to have passed the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry.

You will be assessed in your floristry practical skills (where relevant), to demonstrate a satisfactory standard of skill and confidence with designs.

You’ll complete an examination and a “synoptic” assignment (a practical project that brings your skills together). We’ll support you with mock assessments and informal practice throughout the year to ensure you’re ready.

You will complete a work placement of over 150 hours, which will need to include employer involvement during your time at college, giving you vital industry connections and hands-on experience.
Whether you want to keep studying or jump straight into work, this diploma opens doors.

> Higher Education: Progress to university by earning the UCAS points required for your chosen degree.
> Career Routes: You’ll be ready for roles such as Senior Florist, Supervisor, Event Specialist, or Lecturer.
> Be your own boss: You will be well-equipped to start your own business as a Shop Owner, Manager, or Freelance Florist.

Some courses may require equipment and/or uniforms to be purchased. Please see the attached equipment list for further information.
