Course Overview

Ready to take your first step into the workplace? This inspiring one-year programme is a partnership between Project Search, Ysbyty Wrexham Maelor, and Coleg Cambria. It is designed specifically to help you bridge the gap between college and a rewarding career.

This course focuses on giving you the real-world skills that employers value most. You will spend four days a week gaining hands-on experience at the hospital and one day at our Yale/Wrexham campus to build your knowledge.

During this programme, you will:

*Gain valuable employment skills by working directly in different hospital departments.
*Develop your confidence and learn how to perform successfully in a professional environment.
*Work independently as you progress, proving your value to future employers.
*Receive expert guidance from a Job Coach who is on-site to support you every step of the way.
This programme is designed for learners with learning disabilities and/or difficulties who require support to enter into paid employment. It is suitable for learners progressing from ILS Programmes.

Applications can also be made from parents/carers/employment organisations and third sector organisations who are supporting young adults with learning disabilities and/or autism with transition to work.

Based on site four days a week at Ysbyty Wrexham Maelor, the majority of the programme is practical work experience. New students undertake a comprehensive initial assessment and induction before progressing to an individualised work experience programme linked to their specific outcomes and aspirations. Learners suited to this course will have an Education plan (Learning Skills Plan or Education Health Care Plan) which details ALN.

Learners will need to be able to travel independently to work placements.
We focus on your individual journey. You will have a plan to support you in tracking your personal goals and successes. You will have support from your Employability Mentor and Job Coach to ensure you are progressing toward your long-term aspirations. You may also earn relevant qualifications or units while on the programme.
The main goal of this internship is to help you move into paid employment. By the end of the year, you’ll be equipped with the practical experience and work habits needed to stand out to employers and start your journey toward a brighter future.
